China's Role in Global Economy Essential for Continued Economic Growth

Global business leaders recently lauded China's commitment to pursuing high-quality development, expressing unwavering confidence in its potential to remain a pivotal force in global economic growth. These sentiments were echoed at the China Development Forum 2024 in Beijing, a gathering attended by international scholars, entrepreneurs, government officials, and representatives from various international organizations.

During the event, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva commended China's shift towards high-quality growth, emphasizing the critical role of reforms in achieving this transition. Georgieva projected a growth rate of over 3 percent for the global economy in 2024 and urged comprehensive structural reforms worldwide to bolster conditions for entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic performance, especially in light of low productivity, high debt levels, and geopolitical tensions.

Echoing Georgieva's call for reforms, World Bank President Ajay Banga highlighted the pressing global challenges, including deepening inequality and the impending workforce imbalance in developing countries. However, he remained optimistic, citing China's remarkable development journey as evidence of what is achievable through reform initiatives.

Both leaders underscored the importance of digital and green transformations in enhancing productivity and living standards globally, with China positioned as a leader in renewable energy deployment and digital infrastructure development. Furthermore, Georgieva emphasized China's significant contributions to international initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development.

Meanwhile, Apple's Tim Cook, attending the forum in Shanghai, praised China's commitment to openness and innovation. He affirmed Apple's continued investment in research and development within China, highlighting the imminent launch of Apple's flagship mixed-reality headset in the country later this year. Cook's presence underscored the enduring partnership between Apple and China, reflecting mutual confidence in the potential for continued collaboration and growth in the region.
