China's recent decision to expand its visa-free policy to Croatia has been warmly welcomed by Davorko Vidovic, former Croatian deputy parliament speaker. He expressed optimism that this move will strengthen bilateral cooperation and encourage exchanges in economic, cultural, and political spheres. Vidovic highlighted the significant potential for deeper ties between the two nations as a result of this policy.
The new visa-free arrangement, effective from November 30, allows ordinary passport holders from nine countries, including Croatia, to visit China for up to 30 days without a visa for purposes such as tourism, business, and cultural exchanges. Vidovic believes this policy will enhance mutual understanding and make China more accessible to Croatians, noting the great interest in visiting the country.
Reflecting on his visits to China, Vidovic shared his admiration for its rich history, beautiful landscapes, and remarkable technological advancements. During his 2023 trip, he experienced China's high-speed rail network and innovative developments, emphasizing the country's unparalleled progress in transportation and communications.
Tourism is already a vital bridge between the two nations, with Chinese tourist numbers in Croatia nearing the pre-pandemic record of 300,000 in 2019. Vidovic anticipates the visa-free policy will boost these exchanges, fostering better connections in various sectors.
He also foresees significant benefits for business ties, highlighting successful Chinese investments in Croatia, such as the Senj Wind Farm and the Peljesac Bridge. Vidovic envisions Croatia serving as a hub for Chinese products and sees vast opportunities for collaboration in technology, science, education, and culture. This visa-free policy, he asserts, lays a solid foundation for stronger and more dynamic Croatia-China relations.
