Companies from Wales Target Singapore's Food and Drink Market

The Trade Development Visit to Singapore, orchestrated by the Welsh Government, serves as a pivotal platform for engaging with potential partners, distributors, and buyers in the region. The initiative aims to showcase Wales' wide array of premium-quality products, spanning dairy, bakery, and alcoholic beverages.

Singapore, importing approximately 90% of its food and drinks, presents a promising market for Welsh exports, fostering aspirations for further sectoral growth.

Lesley Griffiths, Welsh Government Minister for Rural Affairs, North Wales, and Trefnydd, expressed enthusiasm: "This trade visit offers a remarkable opportunity to exhibit Wales' exceptional food and drink, fostering vital connections on a global scale. Singapore holds immense potential for our industry, and I anticipate the positive impact this endeavor will have."

Participating companies engage in meetings, store visits, and networking events, facilitating direct interactions with Singaporean importers, retailers, and consumers. Among the attendees are Daffodil Foods, Daioni, Zero2Five, and esteemed producers contributing to the showcase tasting include Village Bakery, Monty's Brewing, Snowdonia Cheese, Tan Y Castell, Penderyn, Halen Môn, Morgan's Brew Tea, and Hensol Castle Distillery.

Daffodil Foods, already expanding exports to Hong Kong and Japan, eyes further growth through Singapore and Malaysia. Lynne Rowlands, Director of Daffodil Foods, highlighted, "This visit offers a fantastic opportunity as we aim to tap into the Afternoon Tea market in South-East Asia."

Welsh bakery Tan Y Castell, celebrated for its awards, acknowledges the Welsh Government's support in facilitating strategic partnerships. Owner Paul Mear expressed delight in participating, emphasizing the significance of these events in their expansion into new markets.

Singapore's association with the UK and its position within the Commonwealth have fostered an appreciation for Welsh products and British food culture. The region's robust economic growth and high purchasing power make it an ideal market for high-quality Welsh products.

The endeavor to unlock new markets not only amplifies the global presence of Welsh produce but also promises increased revenue and profitability for these businesses.
