TotalEnergies (Paris: TTE) (LSE: TTE) (NYSE: TTE) has secured a contract for the deployment and operation of 1,100 high-power electric vehicle (EV) charging points, capable of delivering up to 200 kW of power. This initiative is part of the German government's "Deutschlandnetz" or "Germany network" project, and these charging stations will be strategically clustered into "EV hubs" at 134 locations spanning eastern, central, and western Germany. Importantly, these new charging points will exclusively utilize renewable electricity sources.
This development is a significant milestone in Europe, marking one of the largest tenders for EV charging infrastructure. The project, initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), seeks to establish an extensive and user-friendly fast-charging network, encompassing an additional 8,000 charging points distributed across over 1,000 sites nationwide. TotalEnergies will be responsible for deploying these 1,100 high-power charging points in both rural and urban areas.
High Power Charging (HPC) technology, as deployed in these stations, allows compatible EVs to recharge at a rate exceeding 50 kW, reaching up to 300 kW. Depending on the EV model, this level of charging can provide a 100-kilometer range in just 6 minutes and recharge approximately 80% of the battery within approximately 20 minutes.
TotalEnergies, a prominent player in the electric mobility sector, aims to operate more than 1,000 high-power EV hubs throughout Europe by 2028. Following its success in securing a contract to install and operate 500 public charging points (11 kW) for electric vehicles in Berlin in June 2023, TotalEnergies solidifies its significant role in advancing electric mobility in Germany. The company has already installed over 4,500 charging points across the country.
TotalEnergies takes on not only the financial investment but also the entire process, from initial conceptual design and structural implementation to the ongoing operation and maintenance of the charging infrastructure. To ensure a seamless charging experience for EV drivers, TotalEnergies plans to equip its hubs across Europe with various amenities, including sanitary and catering facilities, as well as access to various payment methods.
Thierry Pflimlin, President of Marketing & Services at TotalEnergies, expressed enthusiasm about this achievement, emphasizing the opportunity to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in Germany and underlining the company's commitment to delivering sustainable and reliable charging infrastructure.
TotalEnergies is dedicated to promoting electric mobility on a large scale, with plans to operate over 48,000 charging points by 2023. The company is actively investing in charging infrastructure deployment to facilitate EV adoption, offering solutions for both individual customers and businesses. Furthermore, TotalEnergies aims to expand its fast-charging network to 1,000 sites in Europe by 2028.
In Germany, where TotalEnergies has been operating since 1955, the company provides various energy products and services, including lubricants, LPG, heating oil, aviation and shipping fuels, bitumen, and special industrial products. It also operates a cutting-edge crude oil processing facility in Leuna, among other activities. Additionally, TotalEnergies is involved in petrochemicals, natural gas, and solar solutions through SunPower. The company is making substantial investments in wind power and is set to become a major LNG supplier in Germany with the opening of the Deutsche Ostsee LNG import terminal in 2023.
TotalEnergies, a global multi-energy company, is committed to delivering more affordable, cleaner, and sustainable energy solutions while prioritizing the well-being of people across nearly 130 countries.
