Hyundai Expands Partnership with China’s Thundersoft for Advanced Automotive Technology

Hyundai Motor Group has signed a new strategic cooperation framework agreement with Chinese software firm Thunder Software Technology Company (Thundersoft) to advance software-defined vehicles (SDVs) for the local market. Strengthening their collaboration, the two companies have launched a Joint Lab in Shanghai, focusing on intelligent vehicle software development. Thundersoft will work closely with Hyundai’s Advanced Technology Research Center and Hyundai Motor R&D Center in Shanghai to drive innovation in next-generation automotive software.

The partnership is centered on developing an intelligent cockpit platform, integrating advanced technologies such as app stores, navigation, voice and large language models, vehicle-to-device connectivity, and multimedia services. This collaboration will accelerate Hyundai’s Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) strategy, enhancing its offerings for both the Chinese and global markets.

Hyundai and Thundersoft also plan to extend their cooperation beyond R&D, fostering industry and academic collaborations. By sharing industry insights, market trends, and cutting-edge technological advancements, the two companies aim to integrate resources across the industrial chain and drive synergistic innovation in the intelligent automotive sector.

Feng Yang, general manager of Hyundai Motor’s Advanced Technology Research Center, emphasized that this strategic partnership is a key step in Hyundai’s localization strategy for China. The collaboration strengthens Hyundai’s commitment to intelligent vehicle development and technological advancements in the Chinese market.

Hengsheng Chang, executive president of Thundersoft’s Smart Vehicle division, highlighted that the long-term cooperation between the two companies is based on market demand and mutual trust. The establishment of the Joint Lab will enhance AI cockpit technologies, integrating multimodal interaction and advanced AI models. By leveraging these innovations, Hyundai aims to develop highly competitive intelligent vehicles, breaking traditional limitations and setting new industry standards.
