External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized that the strategic partnership between India and Brazil has significantly deepened and diversified over the years, now covering areas such as defense, space, security, technology, and people-to-people relations. Speaking at the 9th India-Brazil Joint Commission Meeting in New Delhi, Jaishankar also extended his congratulations to Brazil for successfully hosting the G20 meetings and reiterated India's full support for the Brazilian G20 presidency.
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, during his visit to Delhi, highlighted the growing cooperation between the two nations and expressed anticipation for welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November. Both ministers acknowledged the importance of their bilateral trade, which has seen substantial growth, and discussed the challenges and opportunities in various sectors including energy, biofuels, and culture.
Jaishankar also noted the strong multilateral cooperation between India and Brazil in platforms like BRICS, G20, and the UN. Vieira, on his part, described India and Brazil as vibrant democracies that play a positive role in international affairs, with shared views on many global issues.
