External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar embarked on a diplomatic mission to Singapore, focusing on fortifying the strategic alliance between India and Singapore. During his visit from October 18-21, Jaishankar engaged in a series of high-level discussions with Singaporean officials, aiming to bolster bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
The Ministry of External Affairs disclosed that Jaishankar met with Singapore's newly-elected President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and conveyed congratulations on his recent electoral triumph. The visit served as a platform to deepen the existing strategic partnership between the two nations, reinforcing the foundation for future collaboration.
Moreover, Jaishankar held discussions with Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, emphasizing avenues for enhanced engagement in critical areas such as fintech, digitalization, green economy, skills development, and food security. Additionally, he conferred with Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, further solidifying bilateral ties.
In separate meetings with Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence, Jaishankar addressed bilateral and global issues of common interest. The discussions underscored the robust defense cooperation between the two countries and outlined plans for its advancement.
Further, Jaishankar engaged with Gan Kim Yong, Minister of Trade and Industry, to explore new avenues for collaboration. Additionally, his meeting with K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, underscored efforts to strengthen the bilateral partnership between India and Singapore, particularly in the realm of security and law enforcement.
