Northeastern President Joseph E. Aoun warmly welcomed a distinguished lineup of guests, including U.S. Ambassador to Singapore Jonathan Kaplan and Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno, to the Global Leadership Summit in Singapore. Aoun emphasized the strategic importance of Southeast Asia in the global context, noting its vast potential in emerging markets, given its substantial population of nearly 700 million people, comprising nearly 10% of the world’s populace. Drawing parallels between the region's prospects and Northeastern's forward-looking ethos, Aoun encouraged attendees to engage in meaningful discussions and explore opportunities in the region.

The summit facilitated substantive dialogues on diverse global issues, ranging from entrepreneurship to the Asian music industry, attracting leaders from business, government, and education sectors alongside parents, students, and alumni. Notably, Diane Nishigaya MacGillivray, Northeastern’s senior vice president for university advancement, shared insights on women's leadership and entrepreneurship, underlining the significance of mentorship and inclusivity.

Keynote addresses by notable figures such as U.S. Ambassador Kaplan shed light on complex global challenges and emphasized the importance of collaboration in fostering a peaceful and interconnected world. Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia’s minister of tourism and creative economy, shared his entrepreneurial journey and discussed initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and collaboration in Indonesia's economy.

Other sessions delved into diverse topics such as Singapore’s digital transformation, the future of the music industry, and leveraging technology in healthcare delivery. Speakers like Calvin Wong, CEO of Southeast Asia Universal Music Group, and Spencer Fung, group executive chairman of Li & Fung, provided valuable insights into industry-specific strategies and the transformative potential of digitization.

Throughout the summit, there was a shared enthusiasm for embracing innovation, collaboration, and lifelong learning to navigate the rapidly evolving global landscape and drive sustainable growth and development.
