Nvidia is poised to achieve $12 billion in sales from China this year despite stringent US export controls. The United States has imposed restrictions on American companies, barring them from selling advanced AI processors to China due to concerns that these technologies could be used for military applications. However, Nvidia has strategically designed new H20 chips to navigate these export curbs and continue serving its Chinese customers. According to a Financial Times report, Nvidia is set to sell one million units of these innovative chips in China, surpassing previous revenue figures.
Last fiscal year, Nvidia reported $10.3 billion in revenue from the Chinese market, and this year’s projected sales demonstrate the company’s resilience and strategic adaptability in the face of global trade restrictions. Despite a decline in China’s share of Nvidia’s overall revenue—from 22% to 9%—the company has seen a 50% increase in net earnings from the Chinese market, reaching $2.5 billion in the latest quarter. Nvidia’s total revenue for Q1 2024 surged to $26.04 billion, reflecting significant growth from the previous year. This success highlights Nvidia’s ability to overcome challenges and maintain a strong presence in the competitive Chinese market.
