PacificLight Energy has announced a 10-year partnership with Rexus Bioenergy (RExus) to supply Google with renewable energy, supporting the tech giant's data centers and operations in Singapore. This collaboration aligns with Google’s goal of operating on carbon-free energy by 2030 and represents a significant step forward in advancing green data centers in the region.
The agreement involves PacificLight offtaking renewable energy from RExus’s waste wood-to-energy (WWtE) plant. This plant, which is set to begin commercial operation in 2026, has a capacity of 13.2 megawatts and will utilize waste wood from horticulture and logistics to generate clean energy. The plant was developed and funded by Sobono Bioenergy and V8 Environmental.
Additionally, the facility will incorporate a pilot-scale carbon capture system to channel captured carbon dioxide towards innovative downstream uses. This initiative not only contributes to the sustainability goals of Google but also advances the use of renewable energy in Singapore’s data center industry. The collaboration highlights a commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable energy solutions.
