PacificLight Energy (PLE) and Rexus Bioenergy (RExus) have signed a significant 10-year agreement under which PacificLight will purchase renewable energy from Rexus's Waste Wood-to-Energy (WWtE) plant and supply it to Google. This new WWtE facility, set to begin operations in 2026, is designed to support Google's data centers and operations in Singapore, contributing to Google's goal of achieving 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030.
Developed in collaboration with Sobono Bioenergy and V8 Environmental, the 13.2MW WWtE plant stands out with its advanced technologies and circular synergy. It is expected to be 10% more efficient than other waste-to-energy plants in Singapore. The plant will utilize waste wood from horticultural and logistics sectors, optimizing waste usage to generate energy. It features cutting-edge technology, including a high-volumetric vertical silo for biomass storage and a Smart 3D visualization system for handling.
The plant will also integrate a pilot-scale carbon capture system, which will channel captured CO2 into innovative downstream applications. PacificLight Power's 30% investment in Sobono Bioenergy underscores its commitment to renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions. Google’s Head of Clean Energy & Power for Asia Pacific, Giorgio Fortunato, emphasized the project’s role in advancing clean energy targets in Singapore.
