Qichacha, a Chinese business database, announced on Friday that it has successfully cleared a data export security assessment, enabling the company to restart its overseas operations.
This development indicates a potential relaxation in China's stringent government oversight concerning data sharing, primarily prompted by national security concerns.
Reports from Reuters earlier this year, citing insider sources, highlighted the closure of access for offshore users by databases like Qichacha for several months. In a press release on Friday, Qichacha declared itself the first company to pass the Cyberspace Administration of China's data export security assessment for a platform providing corporate creditworthiness data inquiries. The administration has not yet responded to CNBC's request for comment on this matter.
In October, the cybersecurity regulator introduced draft rules that alleviate restrictions on transferring data outside mainland China. This move addresses a significant challenge faced by foreign businesses operating within the country.
