Rolls-Royce, a prominent British provider of power and propulsion solutions, announced a strategic collaboration with Chinese battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) on June 19. This partnership aims to introduce CATL's new TENER product line in the European Union and the United Kingdom. CATL describes TENER as the world's first mass-producible energy storage system with no degradation for the first five years and a capacity of 6.25 megawatt-hours. Rolls-Royce has already started integrating TENER products into its mtu EnergyPack QG solution, which is designed for large-scale energy storage, primarily for grid operators.
The partnership also explores the development of innovative smart products by combining Rolls-Royce's intelligent automation solution, mtu EnergetIQ, its digital platform, mtu Go!, and CATL's diagnostic and battery management systems. This collaboration aims to enhance the ability of both companies to manage extensive and complex grid-scale battery energy storage system projects. Battery storage systems are a strategic priority for Rolls-Royce's Power Systems division.
These grid-scale systems enable the integration of renewable energy sources into the energy grid, enhancing stability and reliability despite weather variability. This comprehensive solution allows customers to utilize advanced grid and trading services, supporting the transition to a sustainable energy infrastructure. Previously, Rolls-Royce and CATL signed a long-term agreement to collaborate on more than 10 gigawatt-hours of storage capacity.
