Singapore and India reaffirmed their strong diplomatic and strategic ties during the 18th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Singapore. Led by Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Luke Goh, and India’s Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, Jaideep Mazumdar, the discussions covered a broad spectrum of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, reinforcing Singapore’s position as a key regional partner for India.
The consultation focused on six core pillars of collaboration identified in the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable: digitalization, skills development, sustainability, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and connectivity. Singapore emphasized its role as a global hub for fintech and digital infrastructure, reinforcing its commitment to deepening partnerships in cybersecurity, digital payments, and smart city solutions. Strengthening workforce development through skills training initiatives and capacity-building programs was another key agenda, aligning with Singapore’s emphasis on a future-ready economy.
Sustainability and green energy cooperation were highlighted, as both nations explored expanding smart city collaborations and clean energy initiatives. Singapore also reiterated its strong partnership with India in the healthcare sector, particularly in pharmaceutical research, telemedicine, and healthcare innovation. The discussions also underscored the importance of bolstering trade and investment ties, with Singapore remaining one of India's largest foreign investors and a critical gateway for Indian businesses into ASEAN markets.
A significant focus of the talks was the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a roadmap first outlined during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Singapore in 2024. The meeting also held special significance as Singapore and India celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations, reaffirming their commitment to long-term cooperation. Singapore’s continued role as a leading global financial, trade, and technology hub was reinforced, paving the way for deeper economic and strategic engagements. Looking ahead, both nations committed to holding the next round of consultations in India, further strengthening their dynamic partnership.
