President of Singapore, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, recently visited the World Skill Center in Bhubaneswar, India, reinforcing the growing collaboration between Singapore and Odisha. His visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral ties, especially in sectors like skill development, industrial parks, renewable energy, semiconductors, and more. Upon arrival, Mr. Shanmugaratnam was warmly received by Odisha’s Chief Minister, Mr. Mohan Charan Majhi, who expressed enthusiasm about the immense potential for collaboration between the two regions.

Odisha Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Ahuja gave a thorough briefing during the visit, highlighting important areas of cooperation like ports, data centers, industrial parks, and renewable energy. Mr. Shanmugaratnam's visit of the World Skill Center's Travelator Lab and Vertical Transportation Lab underlined Odisha's dedication to promoting innovation. These programs demonstrate the state's determination to advance technical education and create a skilled labor force.

A highlight of the visit was the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Government of Odisha and various Singaporean entities. These agreements aim to bolster cooperation in critical sectors. Among the key MoUs signed were partnerships focused on the development of industrial parks, green hydrogen corridors, and the Petrochemical and Petroleum Investment Region. Additionally, collaborations between institutions like Nanyang Technological University and IIT Bhubaneswar, and efforts to enhance the FinTech ecosystem, were also established.

Mr. Shanmugaratnam praised Odisha’s efforts in skill development and innovation, underscoring the importance of these partnerships for both Odisha and Singapore. The event concluded with a symbolic memento presented to Mr. Shanmugaratnam by the Chief Minister, marking the strengthening of the enduring partnership between the two regions. This visit lays the foundation for future collaborations in technology, industry, and skill development.
