Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commenced his official visit to Germany, Malaysia's primary trading partner in the European Union (EU). Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Malaysia’s Ambassador to Germany, Datin Paduka Dr Adina Kamarudin, along with German government officials, warmly received him at the airport.
Anwar's itinerary includes a visit to Siemens Energy, a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and a courtesy call on President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Discussions will focus on the progress of Malaysia-Germany relations, emphasizing economic cooperation, education, environment, and sustainability. The leaders will also delve into regional and international issues of mutual interest.
During his six-day stay, Anwar plans to engage with industry leaders, potential investors, and the Malaysian diaspora. Ministers Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Datuk Ewon Benedick accompany him. In Berlin, Anwar will address the Korber Foundation on social and political issues and deliver a keynote speech at the SME Future Day 2024 hosted by the German Association of Small and Medium-sized Businesses.
In Hamburg, Anwar is scheduled to participate in the 101st East Asia Friendship Dinner organized by the German Asia-Pacific Business Association, where he is slated to present a keynote speech. This visit, as per Wisma Putra, is anticipated to strengthen the longstanding relations and diverse cooperation between Putrajaya and Berlin.
