Dubai's Expo City is actively targeting Chinese businesses, from start-ups to universities, as it aims to leverage growing economic ties between China and the Middle East. This new business hub, which includes Expo City Dubai, Al Maktoum International Airport, and the Dubai Exhibition Centre, is designed to offer a comprehensive logistics, convention, business, and residential environment. The site spans 4.38 square kilometers and has already attracted notable Chinese firms like AI start-up Terminus, electric vehicle charging company Shahin, and logistics giant Sinotrans.
Expo City Dubai anticipates a substantial increase in Chinese businesses, with estimates suggesting up to 400 new firms could establish operations in the area. The developer is also negotiating with Chinese universities and law firms to join the hub. Amid rising economic tensions with the US and Europe, Chinese companies are seeking stable and lucrative investment opportunities in regions like the UAE.
China has been a leading foreign investor in the Middle East since 2016, focusing initially on energy but now expanding into infrastructure and technology sectors. Last year, the UAE saw a 16% increase in Chinese investment, reaching over $1.3 billion. With Expo City Dubai's strategic location and supportive environment, it is set to become a major player in attracting Chinese investments and businesses.
