Since 2019, the U.S. has prohibited American companies from supplying products to China’s Huawei. Four years later, the effects are still felt globally, particularly in Brazil. Huawei has delayed its smartphone sales in the country due to these sanctions, which have significantly impacted their operations. The ban prevents the use of high-tech chips from U.S. companies and digital platforms widely used outside China, posing challenges for Huawei in the Brazilian market. Huawei executives highlight that their smartphones excel in features like camera quality compared to rivals like Apple and Samsung.
At Huawei’s innovation center in Shenzhen, it was noted that devices cannot use Google’s Android, limiting access to essential services like Gmail and Google Maps. Despite this, Huawei launched its HarmonyOS, now supporting around 150,000 apps, in response to the U.S. embargo. The company continues to innovate, with a focus on 5G equipment and smartphones with advanced features. In Shenzhen, Huawei showcases its latest tech innovations, eager to demonstrate its capabilities amid global challenges.
