Virginia Beach Facility to Receive $5.6 Million Investment from German Manufacturer for Expansion

Hermes Abrasives USA has announced a $5.6 million investment to expand its facility in Virginia Beach, creating 30 new jobs in the process. The company, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, is a renowned global provider of abrasive materials that enhance production finishes.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin revealed the company's plans to reintegrate narrow belt production lines, thereby enhancing its capabilities, in a press release dated September 13. These production lines were originally housed within the Virginia Beach facility but were relocated to Mexico in 2019.

Brad Sorgen, President of Hermes' North American operations, expressed the company's pride in being a part of Southeastern Virginia for over four decades. He emphasized their excitement about the forthcoming expansion and development initiatives planned over the next five years.

The Virginia Beach Development Authority has extended its support to the project by approving a $100,000 grant. Established in 1981, the Virginia Beach facility is responsible for manufacturing 60% of the company's product portfolio and serves as the flagship location for producing industrial-scale sandpaper for the automotive and woodworking industries, according to the city.
