Westfleisch, a prominent German meat producer, has broadened its reach into the pet-food industry with the recent acquisition of The Petfood Company, a local specialist based in Bocholt, Germany. This strategic move marks an expansion of Westfleisch's existing presence in dry pet food, where it already sells products under its Dog’s Nature brand.
Although specific financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed, Westfleisch's CEO, Dr. Wilhelm Uffelmann, expressed enthusiasm for the venture, emphasizing its significance in extending the company's value chain. He noted the substantial growth potential for The Petfood Company's premium products, particularly in response to strong demand from retail partners.
The decision to acquire The Petfood Company was motivated by its reputation as a well-established producer of wet pet food and its modern production facility. COO Johannes Steinhoff highlighted the company's commitment to leveraging its resources, expertise, and network to expand production capacity in Bocholt and ensure the sustainability of the facility.
With this acquisition, Westfleisch, now operating at ten locations across Germany, solidifies its position as the country's second-largest meat processor while also tapping into the lucrative pet-food market. This strategic expansion aligns with the company's goal of diversification and sustainable growth in the evolving consumer landscape.
